How to price your item on Stra; and why the right price gets you paid faster

Stra's fee structure is transparent — you set your price, we deduct 10% on payout. But how you price your item affects how quickly it sells. Here's the thinking behind it.

Pricing on Stra is straightforward in one sense; you set the price you want to receive, and we handle the rest. The buyer sees your price plus our 5% service fee at checkout. On payout, we deduct our 10% commission from your listed price.

So if you list at ₦10,000, you receive ₦9,000. The buyer pays ₦10,500.

Simple enough. But how you arrive at that number matters more than most sellers think.

Don't price to negotiate

On traditional marketplace platforms, sellers often list high expecting buyers to haggle them down. On Stra, that doesn't happen; buyers pay through the platform at the listed price. There's no DM negotiation, no meeting-point bargain.

If you price ₦5,000 above what you actually want, you'll have a listing that sits without buyers while identical items at honest prices sell. Price at what you actually want to receive.

Factor in the commission before you list

If you want ₦45,000 in your pocket, list at ₦50,000. The 10% commission takes ₦5,000, leaving you with ₦45,000. This is not a surprise deduction build it into your price before you submit the listing.

Check what similar items are selling for

Browse Stra's live listings before you set your price. If three other sellers have the same phone listed at ₦85,000 and yours is at ₦120,000, yours will not sell first. Competitive pricing on a verified marketplace matters more than on unstructured platforms because buyers can actually compare with confidence.

Honest condition = faster sale

A listing priced accurately for its actual condition sells faster than an overpriced listing claiming perfect condition. Buyers on Stra know every listing has been verified. They trust the descriptions. If yours says "good condition, minor wear" and the price reflects that, you'll move it faster than someone who says "mint" and prices accordingly when the item clearly isn't.
